Delete Your Data

Godly Advisor

You can erase everything Gabriel remembers about you whenever you want, and you do not need to give a reason. Which route you take depends on whether you are signed in — start in the app, at Settings, and scroll to Your data.

If you are signed in with Google

Settings has one button: Delete my data. Pressing it erases Gabriel’s memory of your account and everything this app has saved on the phone, cancels any reminders you had set, and signs you out. It happens immediately, and it cannot be undone.

If you are not signed in

Then your conversations are tied to an anonymous ID that lives on your phone, and there are two copies to think about: the one on the phone, and Gabriel’s own copy on our servers. Settings shows you that ID, and deals with the two copies in this order.

  1. Our copy first. Email support@godlyadvisor.com with the subject line “Delete my data” and the anonymous ID that Settings shows — there is a link on that screen which fills the whole email in for you. Because the ID is anonymous, it is the only thing we need, and the only thing that can connect the request to your conversations.
  2. Then the phone. Press Delete what’s on this phone. It erases your conversation with Gabriel, your saved prayers, your bookmarks, your place in the Bible, the devotion log and your settings, and cancels any reminders. It is immediate and permanent.

That order matters: the phone wipe destroys the anonymous ID too, so send the email first — or write the ID down — or there will be nothing left to quote to us.

This is also the route on the installed Android app, where signing in is not available yet.

What gets deleted

From our servers, whether by the button or by email, we delete:

If you were signed in, Delete my data also removes the account record holding your name and email, and signs you out. The button does all of this at once; an emailed request is completed within 30 days. Either way it is permanent — we cannot restore your conversations afterward.

Two things deleting does not reach

An answer you reported. If you ever tapped “report” on one of Gabriel’s replies, we keep that question and that answer so a person can read it and put right whatever went wrong. Nothing on this page deletes it for you — and the reason is the whole point. When you report an answer we write down no ID, no name, no email, nothing about who sent it. Neither the button nor your emailed ID can reach it, because there is nothing on it to match either one against. If you would still rather it were gone, email us with roughly when you reported it and what it was about, and we will find it by hand and delete it.

A conversation you had before signing in. That one belongs to the anonymous ID that was on your phone, not to your account, so Delete my data does not reach it. If you still have that ID, email it to us as in step 1 above and we will erase that conversation too. Please note it down before you sign out or delete your data, though: Settings shows the ID whether or not you are signed in, and signing out of an account clears this phone as it goes, ID included. Without the ID, nothing connects that conversation to you — not for us, and not for anybody else — but it also means we have no way to find it for you.
